What to Expect
At your Sparta Tour, you will meet your professional English speaking driver at pick up from your residence with one of our luxury cars and set off for a majestic tour in the Peloponnese area.
The first stop is at Corinth Canal. The Canal cuts through the narrow Isthmus of Corinth and separates the Peloponnese from the Greek mainland. Nowadays it has little economic importance and is mainly a tourist attraction. Free Entrance.
Continue your trip and arrive at the modern city Sparta, built in the exact spot where ancient Sparta was.
Pay tribute to the Tomb of Leonidas, or Leonidion, a 5th century BC monument, where according to tradition the remains of Leonidas have been buried.
Walk at the Archaeological Site with the Spartan Acropolis where you will admire the Late Roman Wall surrounding the hill of the citadel, the Agora, the temple of Athena, one of the largest Roman theatres, a 10th century A.D. Basilica and the dedicated museum.
The view from the top of the Acropolis with the city of Sparta on the left and the imposing Mt Taygetos on the right is astounding. Entrance to the Site is free, the Entrance to Sparta Museum is 2 euro per person.
Right after, get amazed by Mystras, a UNESCO listed site, an astonishingly well-preserved medieval town, built in 1209 AC.
Mystras is perched on the slope of Taygetos, 5 km from the city of Sparta.
A labyrinth of stone streets leads to beautiful Byzantine churches, impressive fortifications with the citadel, the Byzantine palaces, mansions, churches and monasteries all influenced by splendid Constantinople’s architecture.
Your tour in Mystras will start right on top of the Geoffrey of Villehardouin Castle with a stunning view. The entrance to Mystras is 12 euro per person.
Later, your private driver will transport you to Pikoulianika village, a hidden, off the touristic track destination, with its many small streams and high-quality food, where you will enjoy traditional gourmet Greek cuisine with fresh, local ingredients (not included in price).
The next stop is the Museum of the Olive and Greek Olive Oil where you will see rare fossil olive leaves, 50,000-60,000 years old, and get inspired by the culture, history and technology of the Greek olive oil and soap production through the centuries. The entrance fee is 4 euro per person and on Tuesdays, the museum is closed.

Sparta Tour Itinerary
We pick you up at the Port or Airport or your Hotel, Airbnb in Athens at 7:30 am
A bit more than an hour later we arrive at Corinth Canal, drilled between 1880 to 1893, separating the mainland from the Peloponnese but also connecting the Ionian sea to the Aegean sea.
The idea of a canal first occurred In 600 BC by Periander, who built a ship railway, where small boats could be carried on wheeled cradles running in grooves. Today, the Canal has steep limestone walls about 300 feet from the water level to the top of the Canal but is only 70 feet wide at sea level.
An hour and a half later we reach modern Sparta, in the Lakonia region.
We will visit Leonidas Statue, Leonidas Tomb, the Archaeological Site and Museum.
Around 12.00 pm we reach the medieval fortress town of Mystras built after the Fourth Crusade, in 1204 by the Frankish knights and hence became the Principality of Achaea under the reigning family of the Villehardouins.
In 1259 was conquered by Byzantine Emperor Paleologus. Mystras soon became the most important Byzantine city, only second to the capital Constantinople with great flourish in arts and culture. You will see up close churches, monasteries and castles.
A couple of miles from Mystras lies Pikoulianika, a small, picturesque village, built amphitheatrically on the Taygetos mountain where you will enjoy your traditional Greek menu.
At around 3.00 pm we will visit the Museum of Olives and Olive Oil.
